A case in St. Cloud is drawing growing public attention after authorities arrested a home health nurse in connection with the alleged mistreatment of a vulnerable patient.
Police say Nia Ayers, 24, was taken into custody and charged with a felony involving the aggravated assault of a disabled person. The case centers on an 18-year-old woman diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, who is non-verbal and unable to physically defend herself.

According to investigators, the situation came to light after the victim’s mother noticed unexplained marks and injuries on her daughter’s face. Growing concerned, she reviewed home surveillance footage, which she later provided to law enforcement. Authorities say the video became a key piece of evidence supporting the arrest.
While officials have described the alleged actions captured on camera as serious, they have not released the footage publicly in order to protect the dignity and privacy of the victim. Police emphasized that the details remain part of an active investigation.
Reports indicate that the nurse had been working with the family for more than a year, raising broader concerns about trust, monitoring, and accountability in home-based healthcare settings. Because such care often takes place in private environments, experts say issues may go unnoticed without clear signs or evidence.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and are continuing to review additional footage. They have not ruled out the possibility of earlier incidents or other potential victims, and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
At this stage, Ayers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, as the legal process moves forward.
