These are the consequences of sleeping with…𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲

Sleeping with makeup on may seem like a small mistake after a long day, but dermatologists warn that it can have serious effects on both your skin and eye health over time.

Makeup products such as foundation, concealer, blush, and powders are designed to stay on the skin during the day, not overnight. When left on while sleeping, these products mix with oil, sweat, and dirt accumulated throughout the day. This can clog pores and block the skin’s natural overnight repair process, increasing the risk of blackheads, whiteheads, and acne breakouts.

More importantly, your skin naturally regenerates while you sleep. When makeup is left on, this process is disrupted, which may lead to long-term issues such as uneven skin texture, dull complexion, and early signs of aging. Environmental pollutants trapped under makeup can also contribute to oxidative stress, which slowly damages collagen and reduces skin elasticity.

Eye makeup is another major concern. Mascara and eyeliner, especially waterproof formulas, are difficult to remove completely without proper cleansing. If left overnight, small particles can migrate into the eyes, leading to irritation, redness, styes, or even infections such as conjunctivitis. In some rare but serious cases, long-term buildup around the eyes has caused complications that required medical treatment.

Your eyelashes are also affected. Sleeping with mascara on can dry out lash hairs, making them brittle and more prone to breakage. Over time, this may lead to thinner lashes or increased shedding along the lash line.

Experts strongly recommend a proper nighttime cleansing routine. Start with a gentle makeup remover or micellar water to dissolve makeup, followed by a facial cleanser to remove any remaining residue. Eye makeup should be removed carefully using a cotton pad soaked in remover, held gently on the eyes before wiping—avoiding harsh rubbing that can damage delicate skin.

In short, taking just a few minutes to remove your makeup before bed can protect your skin, preserve your natural glow, and reduce the risk of eye and skin problems in the long run.
