KLEIN, Texas — July 20, 2026 — One person was killed and six others were injured after a devastating apartment fire broke out overnight in the Klein area of Harris County, near Houston, according to local officials.

Emergency crews responded to the apartment complex on Cypresswood Drive after receiving reports of a fast-moving fire. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the blaze under control, but part of the building suffered extensive damage.

Authorities said one person died at the scene, while six others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. About 25 residents were evacuated after an eight-unit section of the apartment complex was destroyed.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents with temporary shelter and essential supplies. Meanwhile, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined.

Officials praised firefighters for their rapid response, saying their efforts helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. The investigation remains ongoing, and more details are expected to be released.
