A patient developed sudden, painful red lesions on the face and neck and was urgently referred to a dermatology specialist. Doctors stopped a recently prescribed medication and carried out a full medical evaluation, including blood tests and a skin biopsy, to identify the cause.

The diagnosis confirmed Sweet syndrome, a rare inflammatory skin disorder. It is characterized by the sudden appearance of painful red plaques or papules, often accompanied by fever and an increased white blood cell count. The condition is believed to result from an abnormal immune response and may be triggered by medications, infections, or underlying diseases.

In this case, treatment with oral corticosteroids was started immediately, leading to rapid improvement within 48 hours. The patient’s pain decreased significantly, and the skin lesions began to resolve.

This case highlights the importance of early recognition and diagnosis, as Sweet syndrome can mimic other serious skin conditions. Prompt treatment not only relieves symptoms quickly but also helps rule out potentially serious underlying causes.
